Oregon Ancient History
Throughout this first week we were able to see the diversity of Oregon’s fantastic coast line.  A common sight was the dark, rocky cliffs and outcroppings that separated Oregon’s numerous sandy beaches.  Unknown to many, this basaltic stone is the remnants of an ancient volcanic flow that occurred roughly 17 million years ago.  These basaltic headlands are now eroding into the ocean forming a great amount of Oregon’s productive marine habitat.
